Hilda Johanna Nukk

Hilda Johanna Nukk, Viive's mother, was born on January 30th, 1917 at Veskivallas in Tartumaa, in Estonia. Her mother was Lisa Rosalie Tartes born in April 1891 and her father Jaan Nukk was born in the fall of 1881.

Hilda had four other sisters also. They were:

Helena - born on August 14th, 1914
Ella - born on March 21st, 1919
Linda - born on June 24th, 1922
Õie - born on May 6th, 1924

Hilda's father, Jaan Nukk, bought the Vanakuuste Mõis/Estate from four officers.

Hilda remembers seeing a 5 year old Karl Pruuli for the first time as he herded cows on the estate. She also recalled an amusing incident where a very young Karl Pruuli demonstrated his ingenuity and passion for fishing by using an old wooden door as a makeshift boat and using his hands to paddle out into the middle of a pond to get a better location for fishing. After falling into the water, Karl's father proceeded to warm the adventurous fisherman's behind.

Karl and Hilda were married quietly in 1941. After traveling through Germany, England and Germany again, they finally settled in Canada in 1949. Viive was born in 1956.

Hilda is the sole surviving member of the Pruuli family in Canada and continues to live in their family home in Quebec.
